20 kW in four 5 kW elements: the Hiboy for large heating needs
For which homes
The Conforto KHE-02-G020-03 produces 20 kW, or 68,288 BTU/h at 240 V. It is a 2nd-generation electric element furnace in the multiposition Hiboy format, designed for large houses, cottages with a finished basement or older homes whose envelope lets more heat escape. The size, however, is decided by an on-site calculation, not by eye: the same series comes in 10, 15 and 18 kW, and if a smaller size is enough, that is the one we recommend.
Despite its output, it fits in the same 20 x 21 in cabinet as the smallest sizes, which makes it easier to bring into an existing mechanical space.
Two 10 kW stages and airflow set for heat
Its four 5 kW elements are split into two equal stages: 10 kW on the first, 20 kW on the second. With a single-stage thermostat, the ComfortMax function analyzes each cycle and modulates the elements to limit short cycles; QuietComfort preheats recirculated air at low energy to smooth the step from one stage to the next.
A feature of this model: Conforto sets the 1/3 HP PSC motor at the factory to HIGH speed for heating, at 0.5 in of water column, which corresponds to 950 CFM in the manufacturer’s table. The published temperature rise runs from 60 to 80 °F; we measure it at commissioning.
A 125 A circuit: to be validated first
The circuit is what sets this model furthest apart from the smaller sizes. Conforto calls for a 110 A minimum circuit ampacity and allows a breaker of no more than 125 A, with 3 AWG wire; the unit’s total amperage is 91 A. In practice, the furnace alone takes a good share of a residential panel’s capacity. Before proposing it, we note the capacity of your service and the appliances already connected. If the margin is short, there are two routes: increase the electrical service, or step down in size if the heating calculation allows it. The written quote sets out the option chosen.
The furnace also accepts an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 3 tons. Sold alone, it is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
Installation by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. On installation day, the same crew sets the furnace in the chosen position, connects it to the plenums, runs the 240 V circuit and hooks up the thermostat. Commissioning ends with a temperature rise measurement, expected between 60 and 80 °F according to Conforto, and the installation of the supplied 20 x 20 x 1 in filter.
We serve Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.

A 20 kW Hiboy for large heating needs
The KHE-02-G020-03 heats air with four 5 kW elements split into two stages, 10 kW then 20 kW. Its 3-speed PSC motor, factory set to HIGH speed for heating, distributes the air through the ductwork.
- Large or older homes whose heating calculation exceeds an 18 kW model
- Replacing an old central furnace with a high-output electric model
- Upright, downflow or horizontal right-side installations
- Projects with a central air conditioner or heat pump of up to 3 tons

What to know before installing
- Dedicated 240 V, 60 Hz, single-phase circuit: 110 A minimum ampacity, breaker of no more than 125 A and 3 AWG wire, per the manual. The electrical service must be assessed before ordering.
- Horizontally, right side only; in downflow on a combustible floor, a non-combustible base is required.
- Maximum cooling of 3 tons, with DIP switch 3 set according to the coil location.
- Sold alone, the furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- 1 disposable 20 x 20 x 1 in filter

Frequently asked questions
Can my electrical service take a 20 kW furnace?
Conforto calls for a 110 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 125 A and 3 AWG wire, at 240 V single phase; total amperage is 91 A. We do a load review of the house during the estimate, and any upgrade needed appears in the written quote.
How do I know 20 kW is the right size?
Through an on-site calculation: insulation, windows, heated volume and duct condition. The same series comes in 10, 15 and 18 kW; if a smaller size is enough, that is the one we recommend.
What speed does the motor run at in heating?
Conforto sets this model at the factory to HIGH speed, for 0.5 in w.c. The manufacturer’s table then gives 950 CFM. At commissioning, we check that the temperature rise stays between 60 and 80 °F.
Can a heat pump be paired with it?
Yes, with a coil of up to 3 tons on the supply plenum or the return (DIP switch 3). The elements become the backup and come on during defrost.
In which positions does it install?
Upright in upflow, in downflow (non-combustible base on a combustible floor) or horizontally on the right side. The left side and installation on the front or back are prohibited.
