Quick facts
An 18 kW Lowboy with an ECM motor, ready for air conditioning
First, a solid electric furnace
The Conforto KLE-02-G018-H3 is an electric element furnace in the Lowboy format, installed in upflow. It produces 18 kW, or 61,460 BTU/h at 240 V, with four elements of 5, 4, 5 and 4 kW split into two stages: 9 kW, then 18 kW. It replaces a Lowboy of the same format in a house with high heating needs whose ducts were laid out for this type of unit.
Its 1/2 HP Ecotech ECM motor offers five speeds. That is what makes this furnace a good base for a cooling project: its five speeds leave room to set the airflow.
Adding cooling to a house heated by a Lowboy
You want to cool a house in Laval, Longueuil or on the South Shore that is already heated by forced air: with this furnace, the coil goes on the supply plenum or the return, and DIP switch 3 tells the control where it is. Its capacity must not exceed 3 tons. The thermostat can be 1 or 2 stage for cooling (terminals Y1 and Y2).
Conforto publishes 1,275 CFM at HIGH speed, at 0.2 in of water column, and 1,200 CFM at 0.5 in, with intermediate speeds to fine-tune it all. We choose the settings based on the pressure measured in your ducts and the coil selected.
If you choose a central heat pump rather than an air conditioner, the elements become the backup heat, and the control turns one or more of them on during defrost. The furnace sold alone is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant; heat pump eligibility is checked separately, based on the model.
Electrical and space
Conforto calls for a 240 V single-phase circuit with a 100 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire. The cabinet takes 21 1/2 x 44 in of floor space for 34 1/2 in of height.
Before ordering, we review your electrical service: air conditioning adds its own load to the panel, on top of the furnace. We also measure the location and the service clearance required by the manual, then check how the 20 x 20 in warm air plenum and the 18 1/2 x 18 1/2 in return connect to your ducts.
Installation by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work: the furnace, its circuit and the coil are handled by the same team. We serve Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.

A Lowboy ready for air conditioning or a heat pump
The KLE-02-G018-H3 is an upflow Lowboy electric furnace. Its four elements heat in two stages, 9 kW then 18 kW, and its 5-speed ECM motor distributes warm air in winter and cooled air in summer, once a coil is added.
- Homes heated by a Lowboy that want to add central air conditioning
- Central heat pump projects of up to 3 tons, with the furnace as backup
- Replacing a Lowboy in a house with high heating needs
- Duct systems that call for precise airflow adjustment

Frequently asked questions
Where does the cooling coil go?
On the supply plenum or the return. DIP switch 3 tells the control where it is, which also determines how the elements are turned on during heat pump defrost.
Is a 2-stage thermostat required?
No. The manual calls for a 1 or 2 stage heating and cooling thermostat (terminals G, W1, W2, R, Y1, Y2 and C). With a single-stage thermostat, ComfortMax manages both element stages.
What airflow does the ECM motor deliver?
Conforto publishes 1,275 CFM at HIGH speed at 0.2 in w.c., 1,200 CFM at 0.5 in w.c., and intermediate speeds (MED-HIGH, MEDIUM, MED-LOW). We choose the speed based on your ducts and the coil installed.
What electrical circuit does it need?
A 240 V single-phase circuit with a 100 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire, according to Conforto.
If I add a heat pump, do I qualify for LogisVert?
The furnace alone does not qualify: it is not a heat pump. Eligibility of a central heat pump is checked separately, based on the model chosen.
